How we choose products

By the Calm Chaos HQ editorial team

Published Updated

Guides on this site are household layouts first. A product is mentioned only when it gives that layout a physical home.

Layout, then the object

We start with the job: incoming paper needs a shallow pocket, a backpack needs a hook at the child’s shoulder, breakfast needs a bin you can reach while holding a bowl. The object is chosen to match that job. A mention is not a prize, a ranking, or a review score.

If a guide names a brand — Command, Sterilite, Quartet, a store brand such as Mainstays or Room Essentials — it is a widely sold example of the type, so you can find something similar in a store you already use. Another brand that meets the same description (size, reach, removable label, no extra features) is a fine substitute. We do not publish prices or star ratings, because both change and we are not running a test lab.

What we will not claim

We do not claim that a bin, timer, chart, or printable treats ADHD, improves a clinical measure, or replaces a clinician, therapist, or school plan. The about page states that limit, and guides repeat it where a reader could mistake a layout for care.

We do not invent personal stories, credentials, or reports of use in a specific household. We do not publish reader reviews. A named author note will be added only when the owner writes one.

Links

A store link on a guide opens a public search page on Amazon, Walmart, Target, Michaels, IKEA, or a similar retailer. The address has the search words and no tracking ID. It is not an affiliate link. Clicking it does not pay us.

We may join affiliate programs later. If we do, the link will be labeled on the guide and the affiliate disclosurewill name the program. Wording for a specific program, Amazon’s included, will not be added unless that program approves us.

Links to Print Tonightare different. Those kits are our own printables, sold on Payhip. Theprintables page separates the free sample sheets we host here from the kits that are for sale.

Corrections

If a measurement, a product type, or a link is wrong, write tocarter.hubbs@gmail.comor use the contact page and name the guide. Guides show a published date and an updated date taken from the page’s history so you can see when the text last changed.

Start with the family command centerif you want to see the standard in practice: four zones, then the ordinary objects that hold them.
